SPRING HAS SPRUNG AT MAGIQUE
2010 SPRING/SUMMER STYLE GUIDE~ 10 WAYS TO FLING YOU INTO THE MOMENT~

The international runways for the 2010 Spring/Summer Season projected representations of performativety, fantasy & a return to minimalism.  The fashion landscape is versatile & incredibly open to one’s own subjective style—the message is simple: do your own thing!  Let the trend of freedom reign—it can be expressed through a spectrum of colours, prints & textures.

Boisterous hues, energetic prints and voluminous silhouettes signal the entrance into the next season.  FABRICS are drapey, fluid & liquid; enveloping the frame—think linen, lace, chiffon, cotton, knits & macramé.  The LAYERING trend is heightened by way of great textural mixes in fabrics. Colours are evocative of sunrises & sunsets. The ESSENTIAL style trends this season include pastels, nudes, and grays, ruffled, sheer & sparkling embellishments. In juxtaposition, the EDGE can be infused through military pieces, sport-utility-wear & bold tribal & ethnic touches.  Discover it all from elegant & simplified to flowing & dramatic—in everything from jackets & cardigans to pants & dresses at Magique!

UNDER-THE-WEAR:
A fundamental component of SPRING/SUMMER is transparency & exposing intimate apparel (tunics & dresses by Mais il est où le soleil).  Think vintage lingerie & pure femininity—sheer, ruffles, lace & nudes. The return of lace tops & tanks (Animale) can be paired with structured elements such as with a tailored jacket (Marc Aurel) to get through the day.

SHORTS:
Girl you better work!  Shorts are the new legging, making our legs an accessory this season.  Thankfully there is a range to suit us all. Consider:  micro; long (7 For All Mankind); bloomers (Sarah Pacini); bermudas (Newman). Add tights or patterned leggings (sheer lace leggings by Animale) to transform the look of legs.

SPORTY:
Luckily we have all felt a gravitational pull toward sports attire due to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Now we continue the trend through as SRING/SUMMER fashion gets functional with a range of game inspired pieces—drawstring details (Newman); sports-inspired jackets (Heyman street couture~ features animal print cami, pinstripe jacket, t-shirt with appliqué, pinstripe vest, crop linen pant ); and racing/nautical stripes (Splendid).

MILITARY:
Make military a chic component this season by incorporating trench coats (try a new take on a classic trench done in a subdued charcoal grey by Add); utility pants (Newman) and tanks (colour rich camo tank by Splendid). Do Military inspired shirtdresses; khaki separates (vests by Sandwich); cargo neutrals (dresses by Sandwich) & military jackets (Sandwich). Go with soft hues, camouflage, animal prints, metallics and beading to reinvent this look.

SOFT HUES:
Think pastels: blush colors, subtle sorbets & nudes as the ideal colour palettes to mark the season (plaid jacket by Marc Aurel; perfect pastels by Sandwich & Repeat). Soft muted grays and icy blues are regarded as the latest neutrals (Sandwich’s basic line features a series of tops & jackets in a sea breeze tone; Animale, Crea & the Sarah Pacini collections offer breathtaking pieces in grey tonal variations). This monochromatic style done in draping fabrics, with ruching or with an emphasis on cuts signifies the impact of this style trend & are major features this season (look to Sarah Pacini’s collection which offers pieces such as a one shoulder pull, ruching & gathering detail to one side or incorporate a drapey top by Stills).

BRIGHT LIGHTS:
Bright hues are essential to any SPRING/SUMMER wardrobe. This season think pops of: gold, aqua blue, lime (Tangerine Jill, Save the Queen) & paprika (Newman).  PRINTS are the way to fuse in hues—from Flirty Florals (the Rosa dress by Newman); to Ethnic Prints (Heyman); Tribal Tops (Save the Queen) to a Tribal Inspired Gown (Sarah Pacini). For impact as well do Graphic Black & White Prints as rocked by Sarah Pacini & for a unique motif try a Graphic Print dress in bold hues dubbed as ‘chaos’ by designer Tangerine Jill.

OPEN SEASON:
Punctured, perforated, or pleated—this season is all about the eye catching details. Look to Sarah Pacini’s line to marvel at pulls, vests & cardigans with these features. Work open-air knits in the form of a beautiful crochet sweaters, cardigans & racer-backs (Crea) or lacy tunics (Sandwich). Or allow the eye to follow the detailing of frayed edges, pleats or ruffles (Diego Reiga). Ruffled & voluminous skirts (Mais il est où le soleil), layering, texture & beading (look to the Sarah Pacini collection).

PANTS:
Work the look a variety of ways: with the fuller, high-waisted pant (Sarah Pacini ); the fitted trousers that taper to the ankle, preferably in silk (olive green satin legging by Cambio); the effortless white linen trousers & cotton ankle pants (Crea); & bloomers & pants/skirt (Sarah Pacini).
DESIGNER DENIM DETAILS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
Dark washes; faded touches; high waisted 70s inspired; back pocket studding & beading (True Religion, Rock & Republic, 7 For All Mankind, Cambio).

~ACCESSORIES~
JEWLERY:
Accessories single-handedly can alter the look for Spring/Summer 2010. Jewelry can be worn simplistically—as a statement piece or the opposite effect—worn excessively. Feel free to mix textures, prints, embellishments & shine at once.
Look for: Modern Plastics (‘Athene’ bracelets in lemon yellow & taupey brown~ Newman), or go modern with a simple rope necklace embellished with beads (Sarah Pacini); Charming details (metal hearts & transparent glass beads are emblematic of this trend & features of the Karyn Chopik collection); Coloured stones (Sandwich) & Transparency (metal/ plastic/ Plexiglas) (Anne-Marie Chagnon’s collection features authentic pewter, dark wood, bright resin, glass & are transformative: necklaces can be extended or transformed into a bracelet).

BAGS:
Look for Mini purses (Sarah Pacini, Newman); Braids & Weaving (Newman); Studs (Save the Queen); & Metallic’s (Sandwich).

BELTS:
If one wishes to forgo jewelry in favour of a minimalistic approach—simply belt a one toned look or take the classic white shirt, in its new lengths & silhouettes (Diego Reiga & Kapalua) & belt it. The waist can be synched to emphasize curves & by playing with width & texture it keeps the look current. Try Skinny & Wide leather versions (Newman, Sarah Pacini); braided (Suzi Roher) & beaded (Mais il est où le soleil).
